Zeste team has unparalleled experience in advanced waste to energy technologies, particularly gasification
Gasification
Gasification is an advanced thermal treatment technology which recovers energy from waste feedstock. It is not a form of incineration; instead it heats feedstock with less oxygen than traditional combustion methods and in doing so reduces carbon emissions.
Gasification projects are classified by the Environment Agency as R1 (Recovery) facilities because of their high energy efficiency rate unlike most incinerators which are classified as disposal facilities.
With years of experience with gasification technologies and deep knowledge of syngas (a product of gasification), Zeste is developing technologies that further convert syngas to hydrogen and other high-value molecules.
Technologies we have evaluated, deployed, and managed
Kobelco Eco Solutions
A Japanese company Kobelco is a leading global engineering equipment supplier which has been constructing waste projects for 25 years. It has 16 waste gasification facilities operational in Japan and South Korea.
The Hooton Park facility is the first facility in the UK to use the Kobelco well proven fluidised bed gasification technology. The Hooton project uses residual municipal solid waste as feedstock.
Nexterra
Nexterra is a global developer and supplier of waste gasification systems that convert non-recyclable waste materials into clean renewable heat and power.
The team have deployed the proven Nexterra updraft gasification technology into three waste wood gasification facilities. While having owned the technology at one point the Zeste team retain this technology and are still considering its deployment where the technology is the correct fit for future projects.
Outotec
Finnish company Outotec’s fluidised bed gasification technology is installed in the Ince Park facility developed by the Zeste team which uses waste wood feedstock.
The proven technology is installed worldwide in over 100 facilities, with 15 of these using Outotec’s advanced staged gasification technology on a variety of waste fuels. The long retention time in the gasification process ensures high efficiency and complete destruction of exhaust gas contaminants.
